The MORTON family are found in the Parish Registers of Fewston and appear to be Yeoman Farmers of Timble, a hamlet in this large Parish with the Washburn Valley north of Otley.
No Morton is found before Robert and it seems he came into the area from Pateley Bridge.
He married Faith WILSON, daughter of a local family, and Faith became a popular first names in the Morton families.
Later generations moved away into Otley, Adel, Harewood and Burley in Wharfedale.
Sarah MORTON married William RAMSDEN and their daughter Anne married Edward BARRET. Grandmother Sarah appears to have been a powerful influence in the Barret family as many children took Morton as a first name.
